About This Game Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation, a turn-based dungeon-crawling game based on the Dungeons & Dragons Adventure System board games.-- SETTING --On the deadly peninsula of Chult, an adventuring party must fight their way through dangerous jungles, labyrinths and dungeons to find and reverse the cause of the death curse. Choose to play as one or more of the four adventurers (Artus Cimber, Asharra, Birdsong, and Dragonbait) to face many perilous challenges and deadly foes throughout the quest. A former member of the Harpers, Artus Cimber is the keeper of the Ring of Winter. He found the ring in the jungles of Chult, where he also met his wife, Alisanda. His skill with a bow and arrow, as well as with a dagger is unequaled, making him a fearsome ranger. It goes without saying that the Ring of Winter has given Artus powers so strong he can freeze an enemy to death with the touch of a finger. In Kir Sabal, Asharra is the leader of the Aarakocra community. Others refer to her as Teacher, and revere her as a living saint. Asharra is intelligent, ambitious, and somewhat manipulative, but never cruel or insensitive. Besides her leadership duties, Asharra is a powerful mage capable of handling even the most complex of spells.Birdsong, a cunning young Tabaxi bard, learned to defend herself while enslaved by the Yuan-Ti. Proficient to play the lute, Birdsong discovered her potential as a bard when witnessing the effect her songs had on other slaves. After her escape, she became one of the greatest minstrels of Chult. She promised herself to, one day, get revenge on the Yuan-Ti who destroyed her village.Dragonbait is a champion of good and a saurial - a race that originated on a distant world and whose members have long lives. Calm by nature, Dragonbait does not give the image of a dangerous foe, but once in combat, his training and precision makes him a devastating adversary.-- FEATURES --Unique Quests: The procedural map generation allows every quest to remain unique even when replaying them multiple times.Over 30 Quests: The game features a mix of Main Story quests and Side quests.A board game experience brought to life: The game highlights most of the features from the popular board game, combined with features unique to the digital version.Craft your way to Victory: Collect rare crafting materials. Really enjoying the game and looking forward to more content!. The game is fun. Go for it if you like a strategy turn-based game.BUT only buy the game. DON'T BUY THE DLCs. Its only "game money" that will screw up your game experience.. I have the Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon and Legend of Drizzt board games and I can tell you that this is a faithful recreation of that game system. Tomb of Annihiation is the most recent in the series. This plays in the same way that the board games play and the same strategies apply to winning. The graphics are good and the controls work well. If you like the board games you will like this game.. I recommend this game but I do so with a few reservations for all Old School D&D Players. So, I have not played this game for days on end obviously, but I played through the tutorial and the first several quests. I used normal difficulty and went with mostly default power selections for my hero. I thought the graphics were pretty nice and the animations were smooth. Sound/Music was exceptional. Unfortunately the game mechanics and overall gameplay are a bit obscure and because I expected a D&D RPG, it was sort of off-putting for me. Please bear in mind that what I see as shortcomings for this game are based mostly on opinion so your take on things could be quite different than mine.As I said, I am an old school D&D player and I am talking nearly forty years of playing what I consider to be the greatest game environment/setting/backdrop/whatever. I believe it is safe to say that if you are lookng for an old school Dungeons & Dragons game, then TFC:ToA is not it. PROS- Graphics are very nice.- Audio/Music is exceptional.- World is procedurally generated.- Excellent replayability.- Quick and easy game flow.- Good/Interesting crafting systemCONS- Characters/Heros are pre-rolled with VERY little customization aside from a few powers.- Game balance needs serious tweaking at least in first few quests.- Gameplay uses turn based divided into phases that are nothing like any other D&D games I have played.- Maps are seperated into tiles that are shown in the exploration phase which only reveals if you are on the edge of your current tile, and if you do not reveal a new tile in each exploration phase you automatically generate an encounter.- Auto encounters generated from exploration phase fails are usually made up of bizarre magical attacks that seem to appear from out of nowhere for no reason. Like a magic trap that spawns for no discernable reason. Every hero must reveal a new tile on their exploraton phases or a random encounter/trap/event happens for every character that fails to explore a new tile. This quickly becomes overwhelming. The overall mechanics of the game are just so obscure and unfamiliar to me I really have a hard tme seeing this as a D&D game. This is not a complete deal breaker to me but I honestly think if they did not try to pass this off as a D&D game my opinion would be better for it. It is an interesting concept for an adventure game or strategy game but I can't consider this an RPG.- Many Items/Races/Classes/Monsters/Locations must be from a completely new world design because it is wholly unfamiliar to me.So I guess if I were to try and boil it all down for you, I would have to say that if you do not think of this as a D&D game, do not think of it as an RPG and just look at the game as a unique adventure/strategy game with a new and interesting set of game mechanics then this could be a very enjoyable game for you. Once the gameplay is much more balanced out IMHO. GRAPHICS : 8.5 SOUND : 9.0GAMEPLAY : 7.0 OVERALL : 8.0. I have almost all of the D&D adventure board games: Ravenloft, Ashardalon, Drizzt and Elemental Evil. I don't have the Tomb of Annihilation one so this is a fresh game for me in that aspect. This game is true to the board game system, it has the same rules and same mechanics. Because I love the adventure board games, of course I love this game too.I must warn you however, this is NOT for RPG enthusiasts. If you want to play a good RPG, seek elsewhere. The only real and huge downside to this game is the lack of multiplayer, as the adventure board games are meant to be played with more people. Yes, I know you can play them solo as well but it is more fun with more people.
